IAOIP Hot Points – where we’ve been, where we are, where we’re going

Innovation has often been confused with the ‘aha moment’. As innovation professionals, we know that the invention, the great idea, is only the beginning and that the innovation is the improvement or enhancement that happens at the intersection of multiple disciplines. More importantly, we understand that if we want to make a strategic change difference in our organization, practice or industry, we must be well prepared with the latest thinking, methodologies and networks. IAOIP is fostering the ability of an innovation professional to innovate at the highest level in a world of complicated challenges and opportunities. Properly managed, innovation should provide a strategic road map to successful commercialization.

IAOIP’s primary mission of formalizing and creating a global body of knowledge and communities throughout the world has become successful with much more to come, and this is your chance to hear about it.

Healthcare Panel

There are many forces driving the need for innovation in healthcare. In the past, innovation efforts have been focused on traditional R&D, but now there is a need and a momentum for radical change in how we proactively manage disease prevention, how we facilitate health encounters, conduct group diagnosis and consultation in real-time, how we develop and deliver and monitor more integrated treatment protocols tailored specifically to an individual’s genetic profile, to name just a few. This panel will discuss how these innovation needs are being addressed in some of the most interesting places in the world.

Measuring Innovation & Driving Progress in Innovation

3:45-4:45

Innovation is a process that is best managed with a long-term perspective, not necessarily measured in long time increments but rather in completion of prioritized goals. This session will look at the stages of the innovation process and how to implement them: planning, defining the course of action, establishing the motivation, attributing the action items, prioritizing, monitoring, creating new metrics to underpin desired new behaviors, new structures, considering input and output metrics and a suite of leadership metrics to support specific growth initiatives. Creating and driving the effective use of innovation metrics requires a strategic and disciplined approach that starts with the enterprise growth strategy and cascades throughout each business unit, division and group structure. How to establish metrics that support the collective innovation goals of the organization, permitting business leaders to drive return on investment, organizational capability and leadership behavior at multiple levels of the firm. How to create the essential feedback loop allowing for ongoing learning, re-prioritizing and new goal setting?

Leveraging exponential technologies to create disruptive products and services

We spend a lot of time talking about innovative and disruptive exponential technologies without really examining what the technologies mean when combined with other technologies and released in society. It is at the intersection, at the overlay, at the collaboration that the innovation happens. While he performance improvements of a technology such as a CPU via Moore’s law may be impressive, the far greater challenge is to combine these technologies into more complex, value adding products. In this talk we will discuss how exponential technologies can be integrated into products to disrupt product categories. You will leave inspired and with practical ideas as to how to introduce Evan’s integration methodology into your organization.
